I'm not trying to convert you in anyway. I'm simply asking you to listen and understand.
I've been vegan for six months now and a lot of people respond with "Thats too hard, I could never do that." Well let me tell you, the hardest part is not craving a juicy burger, or not having anything to eat at restaurant or breaking my bank account on vegan cheese and tempeh. The hardest part is listening to the people around me crack jokes about how much lettuce I eat, thinking they are making me die of laughter on the inside when really they are tearing me apart slowly. It's watching innocent people take part in an act of violence they are unaware of. People who want to change the world and help the environment, and they don't even know about the affects of eating meat.
I became Vegan for various reasons. The number one reason I tell people is, I don't exactly agree with murder. Eating meat is a form of murder, but because we don't see it happen we think nothing of it. Animals are abused in such terrible ways that they do not deserve. What do people respond at this? "It's just an animal" You're just a person. We are all equal, believe it or not. But because we don't speak the same language as the animals we assume we are a higher power. But does that make it any better? Animals were not put on this planet to be murdered for us to eat. They were put here to live the same way we were. We are not carnivores, we do not need meat. Theres plenty of substitutes to survive as a human, oh and you know vegetables and fruits which are incredibly good for the human body.
Another huge reason that I am Vegan is the environmental effects. The Agriculture business is the number one cause of Global warming.
According to peta.org "Producing a little more than 2 pounds of beef causes more greenhouse-gas emissions than driving a car for three hours and uses up more energy than leaving your house lights on for the same period of time"
There are so many people who believe that transportation exhaust is the number one cause of the green house gas emissions. But all of them together is about 13%. Whereas the Agriculture business is responsible for 51% of the green house gas emissions.
If you are a person who tries to save water, then listen to this. One burger takes 660 gallons of water to make. The agriculture business is responsible for up to 90% of water consumption.
Not many people really understand this, and that is why Vegans get so hurt over the rude comments. We are helping the world in so many ways, yet we get shit on the most. So all I am asking is that you understand why we do what we do.
